Heritage understands historic projects and has a portfolio of experienced subcontractors that specialize in this type of work. Renovations to historic homes include additions and updating or replacing systems in the house. Restorations involve restoring the building to the specifications original to the house.
Like any remodeling project, it’s an emotional and personal experience, only more so. Staying within the confines of a certain period or style is difficult and time consuming. Typically these homes have many structural issues due to the type of framing used in the past coupled with years of water damage, dry rot, or insect damage (typically all three). These issues need to be corrected in a manner to limit any damage to the historical fabric of the home.
Historical homes also have distinguished finish trim profiles that are not made today. Heritage works with local mills to match these mouldings so that your home will maintain its period look. |

Heritage was hired by the Needham Historical Society to “build” a new home for its operations. This work included relocating the town’s first one room schoolhouse from many miles away and combining this structure with the Mills House which was located on an adjacent property. These two buildings were gently placed on a new foundation and each structure was restored.
The Society has formed an enduring partnership with the Needham Schools to provide an imaginative and comprehensive historical curriculum complete with hands on opportunities for Needham students. These will include a one-room schoolhouse experience for Needham’s 3rd graders who attend a day of school in the 19th century-complete with costumed instructors and historically appropriate teaching materials. |
